Freebies: Woodenbox, Poor Things, Cherry Fosphate

Poor Things 600x250Howdy,

I did not want to ignore you guys. However, I had my 10k race yesterday, and I exceeded my expectations with a 00:56:12 time, which was quite unexpected and filled my small little heart with pride. Now that I am back to the “not-so-normal” routine, still trying to sort out my move and future, I come back to you with a lot of flash news-like freebies.

Woodenbox – Roll for Me

Glasgow-based Woodenbox recently released the free track “Roll for Me”. The song is taken from the bands forthcoming new album, End Game, which is due out on Olive Grove Records on 27 May 2013. It clearly represents a mix of folk-y orchestral patterns and trumpets a là Supergrass, with great emphasis on the thumping piano patterns and boastful polyphony. “The album was created as a unit falling apart but looking to stay together,” says lead vocalist Ali. “We believe so much in the music we are making and it is the first album we have written collaboratively.” Old friends alt-country and folk-blues finally meet up again. If it is not enough for you fellas, you can have a listen to the new single “Courage” on Soundcloud.

Cherry Fosphate – Wool

OMG the Strokes are back! No seriously, from the instrumental patterns to the riffs, the Glaswegian four-piece Cherry Fosphate draws from the early US band, blending in an overall fuzz, with incendiary guitars and happy-go-lucky rock-pop, which also winks at breakthrough bands such as Bristolian Casimir. Cherri Fosphate will be supporting their release with the ‘Burning Youth’ U.K Tour, starting on 4th May atBrew In The Bog. The launch will take place at Broadcast in Glasgow on 11th May kicking the tour off in style and taking place throughout May, June and July.

Poor Things – Morgan

Remember that carefree rocky almost pop a là Wombats, that mixes falsetto backing vocals and upbeat drum patterns? What if this was contaminated by grungy guitars? Despite it never displays it too obviously, the inner noisy hint is the trademark of this perculiar Scottish three-piece called Poor Things. The free track Morgan is taken from their forthcoming EP Hurricane Poor Things, out on 10th June via Vinyl Richie Records. Let me know what you think peeps.
