Review/Interview with Crystal Shipsss

Are you ready for some wild psych-pop? I know, now you want me to explain to you what psych-pop is. Well, let’s the one concerned, Crystal Shipsss (solo project of Jacob Faurholt) explain it a bit better for us: “the term goes way back, but I haven’t really listened to a lot of old psychedelic bands. Maybe I would mention a band like The Flaming Lips, they at least have psychedelic elements in their music. Psych-Pop was just mentioned in several reviews of CS’ debut album “Yay”, but personally I would probably describe the music as noise-pop. And live, where we are three piece, with Evelyn Marie Malinowski from Experimental Housewife on drums, and William Kudahl Sørensen from Infants on bass, we are pretty noisy and at times heavy.” Continue reading

Neon Indian – Era Extraña

Neon Indian, aka Alan Palomo, is considered one of the most important representatives of chillwave. After the success of 2009′s ‘Psychic Chasms’, he released some nibbles like ‘Heart: Attack’, first part of an instrumental movement you can find in its new full length, Era Extraña. Recorded in Helsinki, the sophomore album is out Sept. 13 in North America via Paloma’s own Static Tongues imprint, in Europe via Transgressive and via Big Nothing in Japan.

Vermillion Sands

Vermillion Sands is an Italian garage folk band pretty famous in the US, thanks to the release of their 2009’s ‘In the Wood’ via Fat Possum. After the 2010’s ‘Miss Your Gun’ EP (Sacred Bones Records) and the S/T, the band is expecting a new 7″ out via Shit Music for Shit People. Between folk, country rock, this four piece is everything, but Italian music.

Release: Oct. 15

SocNet: Dust, Sirs, Ghostchildren

“Six guys from a place you won’t find on google maps”. That’s how Dust introduce themselves. A blues rock band from Milan and nearby, their sound winks at the Doors and the blues from the 60’s. Listen to their album ‘Tuesday Evenings’ via PureVolume.

Ghostchildren is Math Pop/Post-Glam/Dark-Shoegaze/Space Rock and Prog Pop-Rock. The Rome based band released the third album ‘Il Divo’ last december, after some line-up changes and a big improvement, which brought to the creation of a solid fanbase. The only obstacle to their music are Italian lyrics. It can be a challenge to set and learn some foreign languages.

Pretty fascinating noise-rock/pop/punk (?!), SIRS are a three-piece from Chicago, who just released their EP ‘Booh Hoo’, recorded below Chicago’s Humboldt Park. You can taste the EP below via bandcamp.

The collaboration between the  experimental-noise Lightning Bolt and an EP. It’s a pleasantly disturbing,  highly psychedelic adventure, which you can taste directly thanks to some videos on YouTube, which allow you to listen to the tracks accompanied by some eclectic imaginery.
